Tumbled finish is created by placing rocks of same hardness and dimensions in a large drum or container along with some debris like abrasive grit and a liquid lubricant. Containers are rotated at an optimal speed causing the rocks to slide past each other with that abrasive grit between them. Tumbled finish is created based upon set parameters. Time of duration of the tumble, coarseness of abrasive grit and type of rock used in tumbling decides upon the finish. Rocks are smoothened with abrasive grit, and then washed to remove grits from the rocks. The third stage is introduction of finer grits and then use of pre-polishing compound. Lastly, washing cycle with detergent removes any grit on the stones. The final stage involves polishing with powdered polish.
